Acura RLX

Produced from 2014 through 2020, the Acura RLX stepped in to succeed the long-running Acura RL and offered Honda’s first evolutionary shot at a modern mid-size luxury sedan under the premium Acura marque.
History
The RLX debuted in March 2013 as a 2014-year model, replacing the Acura RL that had anchored the brand’s lineup since the mid-1990s. Sales never reached projected volumes, and production quietly ceased after the 2020 model year, leaving the flagship slot unoccupied.
Design & Dimensions
At 4 982 mm long, 1 890 mm wide and 1 465 mm tall, the RLX cast a slightly larger footprint than its RL predecessor while retaining a conservative three-box silhouette aimed at North-American luxury tastes and more formal Asian markets.
Engineering Highlights
Beyond conventional V6 propulsion, the model introduced the SH-AWD Sport Hybrid system to Acura’s sedan range, pairing a 3.5-liter V6 with three electric motors for torque-vectoring all-wheel drive and a rare hybrid flagship positioning among Japanese sedans.
Legacy
Though its tenure was relatively brief, the RLX served as a test-bed for Honda’s hybrid SH-AWD technology and pushed the Acura brand toward more sophisticated electrified drivetrains later found in the NSX and MDX hybrids.
