Lexus GS

Slotting above the IS and below the LS, the Lexus GS is the brand’s long-running executive sedan aimed squarely at European mid-size sport saloons. The third iteration, code-named S190, appeared for the 2005 model year and introduced Lexus’ first AWD four-door along with a genuine performance hybrid.
Design and Launch
Design work started with the LF-S concept unveiled at the 2004 Tokyo Motor Show—an angular fast-back study that prefigured the production cues. The close-to-production S190 sedan broke cover shortly after at the 2005 North American International Auto Show in Detroit and went on sale later that year, retaining the concept’s L-finesse lines but wrapped in a far more conventional three-box silhouette.
Powertrain Range
Buyers could choose between naturally-aspirated V6 and V8 engines driving the rear axle, while the GS 300 and GS 350 became the first Lexus sedans to offer optional all-wheel drive. In 2006, Lexus expanded the lineup with the GS 450h, pairing a 3.5-litre V6 and two electric motors for V8-like thrust with markedly lower fuel consumption.
Generational Snapshot
The third-generation GS ran from introduction in 2005 through the 2011 model year, closing out just as Lexus prepared the facelifted and mildly restyled 2012 model set within the same S190 platform architecture.
