Lexus CT

Unveiled at Geneva in March 2010, the Lexus CT 200h was the first compact-luxury hybrid hatchback, staking out the European market while rolling out worldwide. Built on the Prius drivetrain, it also introduced the brand’s now-famous spindle grille.
History
Development sketches by chief designer Takeshi Tanabe were frozen in 2008; the design was patented in September 2009. Six months later, the production CT 200h bowed at Geneva, replacing the IS as the smallest model in Lexus showrooms and debuting in North America the following month at the New York International Auto Show.
Design
Measuring 4350 mm long, 1765 mm wide and 1455 mm tall, the CT adopts the Toyota MC platform underpinnings. More importantly, it was the very first production Lexus to sport the angular "Spindle Grille," a look that now defines the entire range.
Drivetrain & Variants
Under the floor sits the Prius-based hybrid system, powering the sole series nameplate: CT 200h. Lexus nonetheless trademarked CT 300h and CT 400h badges, hinting at possible follow-up models that never materialized in regular production.
Market Position
Conceived to conquer buyers downsizing in fuel-conscious Europe, the CT targeted Audi A3 and BMW 1-Series owners while offering the exclusivity of a Lexus hybrid hatchback. Global sales kept the model in showrooms in multiple regions for over a decade.
