Sephia-ს წარმოების 2003-ში შეწყვეტისთანავე, კიამ გამოუშვა Shuma – დროებითი სედანი/ჰეთჩბეკი, რომელიც ცარიელი ბაზარს შეავსებდა, სანამ შედეგი Cerato მზად იყო. იმ წლებში ბაზარი უფრო დიდ და გაწერილ კომპატკებს ითხოვდა, კიას კი გაუსწრო.

Slotting between the Kia Sephia and the later Kia Cerato, the Kia Shuma served as Kia's next step in the late-1990s compact segment, offering slightly larger dimensions before the Cerato took over the role.
Background & Positioning
Kia introduced the Shuma shortly after the Sephia ended production in 2003. The model was conceived as an interim compact sedan/hatch that could bridge the gap until the Cerato was ready, giving Kia a continuous presence in a market moving toward slightly larger and more refined compacts.
Design & Dimensions
With an overall length of 4525 mm, width of 1720 mm and height of 1415 mm, the Shuma sat noticeably larger than the preceding Sephia. The extra size translated to more rear-seat room and a longer trunk, aiming at buyers wanting affordable Korean practicality without stepping up to the upcoming Cerato.
Legacy
Though it lasted only a short production window, the Shuma paved the way for Kia’s global compact strategy. Key lessons learned in packaging and cost control were funneled directly into the first-generation Cerato, ensuring a smoother transition for both the factory and the market.
