Introduced in 2008 and retired after the 2024 model year, the Kia Forte served as Kia’s global compact-car offering under several names before quietly bowing out of showrooms.
Global Nameplates
Marketed worldwide, the Forte answered to more badges than many shoppers realise. In South Korea and select Asian markets it was the K3, while China knew it as the Forte K3 or Shuma. South America, Australia, New Zealand and Russia continued to call the line-up Cerato—tying generations three and four together despite the Forte name change elsewhere.
Model Lifespan 2008–2024
The sixteen-year production run spanned three full redesigns. Beginning as a replacement for the long-serving Kia Spectra, the Forte entered its fourth generation in 2018 before paising production in 2024 without a direct successor announced.
Market Position
Positioned below the mid-size Kia K5, the Forte delivered compact-car practicality at a value price. Sedan, hatch (Forte5) and coupe (Koup) body styles offered choices rare in the segment, making it a volume seller for Kia in North America and other key markets.
