The Kia Carnival (KV-II) marked Kia’s entry into the growing minivan segment, launched in 1998 as the brand’s first dedicated people-carrier and produced until 2005 before giving way to the second-generation VQ model.
History
Introduced for the 1998 model year, the KV-II represented Kia’s first attempt at a purpose-built minivan aimed at family and fleet buyers. Built on an all-new platform, it filled a strategic gap between compact MPVs and larger vans, and served as the brand’s flagship multi-purpose vehicle until production ended in 2005.
Legacy and Succession
The KV-II laid the groundwork for Kia’s global minivan program. Its seven-seat flexibility and competitive pricing helped the brand secure footholds in North America, Australia and other key markets. The model range was replaced in 2006 by the fully redesigned Kia Carnival (VQ), which carried forward many of the same packaging priorities.
