Jaguar C-X16

Unveiled on 13 September 2011 at the Frankfurt Motor Show, the Jaguar C-X16 previewed the brand’s next compact sports car by blending petrol and electric power in a striking two-seat concept.
Concept origins
Jaguar Cars built the C-X16 as a technology demonstrator, not for series production. Its sculpted aluminum body showcased proportions that deliberately echoed the 1960s E-Type, while packaging a hybridised V6 and low-slung stance measuring just 1 297 mm in height.
Engineering brief
Jaguar stated the concept tested a future plug-in hybrid system combining a supercharged 3.0-litre V6 with a 70 kW electric motor mounted on the transmission. Conservative quoted kerb mass of 1 600 kg was kept low with extensive aluminum construction and a 2 048 mm wide track that placed extreme emphasis on agility over outright size.
Path to the F-Type
Eight months after Frankfurt, Jaguar confirmed the C-X16 would directly shape a forthcoming production model. In September 2012 the Paris Motor Show hosted the world debut of the that car — the Jaguar F-Type — officially turning the concept’s design language and performance aims into showroom reality.
