Hyundai Veloster

Unveiled in 2011 as the sharp-edged replacement for the Hyundai Tiburon, Veloster tore up compact-coupe norms by grafting one long driver-side door to two shorter passenger-side doors, creating a 3+1 layout no rival has copied. It occupies a niche Hyundai still calls its own.
Concept to Launch
Previewed by the 2007 Veloster concept at Seoul Motor Show, the production version debuted at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show before going on sale that spring as a 2012 model. Built on Hyundai’s new compact platform, the car carried the torch from the outgoing Tiburon while aiming squarely at younger urban buyers with its asymmetrical design.
Asymmetric Design
The defining feature is the door configuration: one large driver door, two smaller passenger doors, and a hidden rear hatch handle to keep the coupe profile. At just 4.25 m long and 1.40 m tall it walks a tightrope between hatchback and coupe proportions, gaining headroom that belies its low roofline.
