Re-launched after an 11-year hiatus, the second-generation Honda NSX blended traditional sports-car thrills with hybrid technology. Built 2016-2022 in Ohio, it replaced the original 1990–2005 NSX while aiming at a wider driver audience and modern performance benchmarks.
Design & Engineering
Measuring 4,487 mm long, 1,939 mm wide and only 1,204 mm tall, the new NSX wrapped its passengers in a low-slung two-door coupe silhouette. A rear mid-mounted engine and standard all-wheel drive formed the core, while a gasoline-electric hybrid drivetrain added electric torque vectoring for sharper response. Development fused Honda’s Japanese design language with U.S. engineering; every unit was hand-assembled at Honda’s Performance Manufacturing Center in Marysville, Ohio—the brand’s only bespoke factory for low-volume sports cars outside Japan.
Integrated Hybrid Propulsion
Pairing petrol power with electric motors created a flexible system that could silence the engine for quiet city crawling or summon four-wheel torque for racetrack launches. The hybrid layout allowed traction at every corner without the mechanical complexity of conventional differentials, providing adjustable drive modes for relaxed commuting or track-focused sprints.
Production Timeline & Variants
Production began in 2016 and concluded six model years later with the final Type S variant. This limited-run Type S, assembled during 2021–2022, closed the whole programme and is the rarest North-American-built NSX on the road.
