Honda’s N-Box Slash is the style-forward spin-off of the popular N-Box kei car family, launched for the domestic Japanese market to appeal to drivers who want maximum interior space within Japan’s strict ‘kei’ size limits. Its deliberately retro-surf design sets it apart from the standard boxy minicar crowd.
Design & Dimensions
The Slash keeps the same 3 395 mm length that defines every kei car, but Honda shaved the width to 1 475 mm and raised the roof to 1 670 mm, creating a taller, more squared-off silhouette. Two-tone paint, round LED headlamps and a stubby tail with hidden C-pillar give it the look of a 1970s surf van shrunk to city-car scale.
Interior Versatility
Despite the footprint of a phone booth, the N-Box Slash squeezes in a flat floor and sliding rear seats that can fold, tumble or be removed, yielding cargo space rivaling subcompact hatchbacks. Color-matched dash panels and customizable ambient lighting reinforce the playful brief.
Mechanical Brief
Powertrain options mirror the standard N-Box: a 660 cc turbo-three shared with other N-series kei cars paired with either front- or all-wheel drive and a CVT. Output stays within Japan’s kei caps, but low-end torque and light weight make the Slash surprisingly quick in bustling Tokyo traffic.
