Since 2013, the Honda Amaze has served as Honda’s most compact four-door sedan. Purpose-built to fit India’s sub-4-metre excise-duty bracket, it allows buyers to enter the Honda family at a decisively lower price point than the City.
Market Position
The Amaze sits beneath the Honda City in both size and price, yet wears a full sedan silhouette rather than a notchback or fastback style. Every generation—from the original launched in 2013 to the 2022 facelift—remains under the 4-metre mark, locking in favourable tax treatment and fuel-efficiency advantages. While its largest volumes are delivered in India, the model quietly appears in neighbouring emerging markets appealing for the same tax rule or parking-space realities.
Design & Dimensions
At 3995 mm maximum length, the Amaze trims every millimetre that would push it across India’s four-metre threshold, preserving rear-seat and boot space within a strictly shrunk footprint. Honda lengthens the wheelbase aggressively within those tight overall dimensions, giving the car a proportionally larger cabin than typical A-segment hatches converted to sedans. Subtle design cues—slim headlamps, crisp shoulder line, and tail-lamp clusters pushed to the corners—visually widen the silhouette without adding actual girth.
Model Timeline
The first-generation Amaze debuted domestically in April 2013 as Honda’s first bespoke Brio-based sedan. A full second generation arrived in 2018 with a completely new platform, more rigid body, and the promise of diesel-CVT and petrol-CVT pairings. A mid-cycle refresh surfaced in August 2021, bringing LED lighting, revised bumpers, and a larger touchscreen interface—again all within the 3995 mm envelope.
