The third-generation Honda Accord arrived in 1985 and quickly became one of the most sought-after mid-size family cars of the late eighties, introducing sharper styling and expanded comfort features before giving way to the fourth-gen model in 1989.
Design & Styling
Compared with the slightly boxy second-generation Accord, Honda’s 1985 redesign featured a sleeker nose with retractable headlamps, more aerodynamic glasshouse lines, and tighter surface detailing. The overall footprint shrank marginally: 4,335 mm long, 1,695 mm wide and 1,335 mm tall, yet clever packaging maintained generous cabin space and a notably flat rear floor.
Generations
This third iteration sat between the second-generation Accord (1981-1985) and the more rounded fourth-generation car that debuted in 1989. Throughout its four-year production span, the 1985-1989 model served as Honda’s volume-seller and anchor of the global Accord lineage.
