Produced from 2002 to 2004, the Holden Commodore (VY) took Australia’s best-selling large car line through its third mid-cycle update, adding the country’s first locally-built all-wheel-drive passenger wagon.
Product range
Alongside the mainstream sedan and wagon, Holden spun the VY platform into the Berlina and Calais luxury levels, the One Tonner cab-chassis, and the Ute and Crewman light-commercial utilities. In 2003 an Adventra wagon joined the catalogue, bringing raised ride height and full-time AWD to the Commodore family for the first time.
Generations in context
The VY slotted between the VX update of 2000–02 and the later VZ of 2004–06, carrying forward much of the VT-series architecture that had debuted in 1997 while receiving revised exterior panels, upgraded interiors, and safety tweaks to keep pace with Ford’s BA Falcon.
