Spanning 2004–2007, the Holden Commodore (VZ) closed out the third-generation Commodore line and bridged Holden’s transition from VY to the all-new VE architecture.
Production scope
Holden built VZ sedans from 2004 to 2006, while wagon and Ute body styles rolled through 2007 alongside the freshly launched VE range. Buyers in showrooms briefly faced two distinct Commodore generations side by side.
Body styles
The VZ range kept traditional choices—sedan, wagon, and Ute—yet it also marked the end of the line for a factory Commodore coupé. Luxury buyers could still step up to the Berlina and Calais variants that retained VZ mechanicals with extra comfort features.
Place in the Commodore timeline
As the fourth and final tweak of the third-generation Commodore, the VZ inherited the VY’s platform while polishing details and engine offerings. It was immediately succeeded by the longer-wheelbase, fully redesigned VE Commodore that debuted for 2006.
