Since the 1998 model year, the Lincoln Navigator has positioned Lincoln in the full-size luxury-SUV race. Built on Ford Expedition bones, it remains Lincoln’s biggest, heaviest and most capacious offering.
History
Lincoln introduced the Navigator for 1998 as its first full-size luxury SUV, responding to the sudden demand for premium family haulers. Sharing its ladder frame with the Ford Expedition allowed Lincoln to reach showrooms quickly while adding distinctive styling and upscale trim.
Design & Practicality
At 5.2 metres long, the Navigator gives Lincoln record-breaking cargo volume and becomes the first non-limousine model from the marque to offer seating for more than six people. A two-box silhouette, prominent chrome grille and vertically oriented lighting reinforce its North-American presence.
Market Position
Positioned above mid-size crossovers like the Lincoln Aviator, the Navigator targets buyers needing genuine three-row space with luxury touches. It competes directly with the Cadillac Escalade and imports such as the Mercedes-Benz GLS, offering a distinctly domestic alternative.
