Since 2002, the Ford Transit Connect has offered businesses and families a purpose-built compact van that replaced the old sedan-derived Ford Courier. Developed in Europe, it carved out a new niche between micro and full-size Transit models.
Origins and Blueprint
Engineered by Ford of Europe, the Transit Connect was the brand’s first dedicated platform for small commercial vans, abandoning sedan chassis in favor of a bespoke frame optimized for load space and urban maneuverability. By slotting between the Transit Courier and Transit Custom, it expanded the Transit family into city-friendly dimensions.
Model Lines and Variants
The same body architecture supports two distinct trims: the cargo-focused Transit Connect panel van and the passenger-oriented Ford Tourneo Connect, which adds side windows and rear seating to serve taxi and family sectors.
Market Footprint
Marketed worldwide since 2002, the Transit Connect quickly became a common sight in European city centers and North American fleets, popular for its tight turning circle yet near-full-size cargo volume.
