North American assembly began for the 1998 model year. After three distinct generations redesigned in 2004 and 2011, the fourth-generation Focus launched globally for 2019, with continued U.S. and Canadian sales relying on imported units built in Germany and China. Ford confirmed in 2022, followed by a 2025 announcement, that Focus production would cease as the brand shifts toward electrified SUVs and trucks.
Legacy
Over nearly three decades the Focus moved more than 16 million units worldwide, becoming Ford’s benchmark for affordable global engineering and platform sharing. Its departure closes the chapter on Ford’s last compact car sale in North America, leaving the brand without a traditional hatch or sedan in the segment.
