History
Ford launched the Flex for the 2009 model year after previewing the design with the 2005 Fairlane concept. Production began in 2008 at the Oakville plant in Ontario, and the single-generation model remained on sale through 2019 without a direct successor.
Design
An unmistakably boxy body over a stretched D3 platform gave the Flex van-like space while retaining SUV ride height. The squared-off wagon stretched 5.1 m long, 2.0 m wide, and 1.7 m tall, yet low visual mass and optional contrasting roof panels kept the proportions distinctive.
Legacy
With its hearse-minimal styling and minivan practicality hidden beneath SUV marketing, the Flex built a small but devoted following among buyers who wanted maximum interior room without sliding doors or traditional truck proportions. Sales peaked early and declined annually, but used examples remain sought-after for their rarity and spacious flat-load floor.
