The Ford Fiesta S2000 is the Super 2000 rally variant of the Ford Fiesta, engineered by M-Sport and thrust into the world stage at the 2010 Monte Carlo Rally.
Race debut
At the 78th Rallye Monte Carlo in January 2010, M-Sport entered two cars: the #3 driven by Mikko Hirvonen and the #20 of Julien Maurin. Hirvonen took the outright victory on the event’s mix of ice and tarmac stages, immediately underlining the Fiesta S2000’s competitiveness in its first competitive outing.
Mechanical basis
Built to FIA Super 2000 regulations, the rally car shares its steel monocoque with the production Fiesta but adds M-Sport-specific suspension, driveline and aerodynamic revisions. Exact engine and transmission details are scarce, yet the regulations of the time capped 2.0-litre naturally aspirated engines with 30 mm restrictors and a mandatory 4-wheel-drive system.
Legacy
The 2010 Monte Carlo victory served as a springboard for M-Sport’s later Ford Fiesta RS WRC programme in 2011, establishing the small hatchback as a credible rally base in the modern era of the sport.
