Born on Australian turf in 1967, the Ford Falcon GT channelled race-track engineering into a daily driver. It swiftly became the muscle-car benchmark for Ford Australia before its first sunset in 1976, later resurfacing in the 1990s and again under new partnerships until 2014.
History
The first Falcon GT arrived alongside the XR series in 1967, spawning successive high-performance versions with each new Falcon generation until production stopped in 1976. Ford revived the badge twice: a brief Tickford collaboration built coupes in 1992 and 1997, then the Prodrive era (2003-2014) marketed the cars as FPV GT & GT-P, extending the lineage long after the original tooling fell silent.
Motorsport Pedigree
Every Falcon GT chapter was written partly at Bathurst where the models collected wins and podium finishes that cemented their reputation. Touring-car victories during the 1970s helped lift the car from showroom hero to national racing icon.
Partnership-Driven Revival
Rather than restart separate factories, Ford outsourced later builds to specialists: Tickford handled engineering upgrades in the early 1990s, while Prodrive took lead design and assembly duties from 2003 onward. This kept badge equity alive without direct large-scale manufacturing investment.
