Continental Mark III (1958)

For 1958 Ford enlarged the ultra-premium Continental line and rolled out the Continental Mark III—an imposing American luxury hardtop that replaced the hand-assembled Mark II and set styling cues for the 1959 Continental that followed.
Design
The Mark III stretched its wheelbase to 5817 mm overall and ballooned to 2035 mm wide while tipping the scales at 2370 kg—dimensions that gave it an unmistakable road presence. Sharper tailfins, twin headlights, and a broad chrome egg-crate grille visually linked it to other 1958 Fords yet retained exclusive, upmarket detailing.
Generations
Continental spun off separate models quickly during this era; the Mark III arrived to replace the short-lived Mark II in 1958, only to be superseded after one year by the stylistically updated Continental Mark IV for 1959.
