Built during the height of Chrysler’s front-wheel-drive push, the Dodge Rampage arrived for 1982 and bowed out after 1984. This small, hatch-backed pickup was the only unibody coupe-utility ever sold by Dodge and served as the marque's sole compact pickup of the early ’80s.
Origins and Production
Dodge launched the Rampage for 1982 as a subcompact, front-wheel-drive coupe-utility riding the Chrysler L platform. All versions were unibody and shared componentry with the Dodge Omni. Two model years were offered—1982 and 1984 before production ended—because 1983 units wore Plymouth badges as the Scamp.
Design and Market Target
Measuring just 178 in overall length, the Rampage combined a two-door passenger cabin with a 5-ft bed, creating a blend of carlike handling and light-duty hauling. The chiseled rear roof and hatchback design maximized cargo access while maintaining a small footprint suited to urban drivers seeking modest utility without a full-size truck.
