Introduced in 1960 by Chrysler Australia, the Phoenix bridged the gap between mainstream Dodge offerings and premium locals. It was never a U.S. Dodge model but a marketplace-specific line that filled the void left by the discontinued Custom Royal. Production ceased in 1973 when the badge moved to the more upscale Chrysler by Chrysler series.

The Phoenix stretched 5413 mm long and 1974 mm wide, delivering the broad-shouldered stance expected of full-size Australian cars of the era. It drew styling cues from contemporary Virgil Exner-era Chrysler cues, featuring tailfins that tapered quickly compared with American counterparts and a wide chromed grille to emphasize presence on suburban roads.
Legacy
While never populous on Australian roads, the Phoenix name remains synonymous with the last hurrah of stand-alone Dodge branding in Australia before integration into the Chrysler range. Wrecker-yard sightings are still common, thanks to robust mechanicals and the car’s suitability for decades of rural towing duty.
