Unveiled in 2014, the Citroën C1 II brought fresh styling and sharper urban manners to the French brand’s smallest offering, giving buyers a compact city hatch that could thread through tight streets yet still carry four adults. Its tidy 3.47-metre footprint made it one of the shortest Euro-market cars of the decade.
Background and Overview
The second-generation C1 arrived four years after an industry-wide shift toward low-emission city runabouts. Built alongside the Peugeot 108 and Toyota Aygo in a Czech joint-venture plant, it retained the three- and five-door layout of the original but wrapped it in an edgier two-tone body. Despite shared underpinnings, the C1 carried unique front-end styling and a dashboard designed to feel unmistakably Citroën.
Design and Dimensions
At just 3,470 mm from bumper to bumper, the C1 II slots easily into a single parking bay yet offers a wheelbase long enough for usable rear-seat space. A floating roof graphic and wide grille with rounded LED daytime running lamps distanced it visually from its predecessor. Inside, a minimalist dash with piano-key climate toggles and an optional seven-inch touchscreen kept the look youthful and simple.
Technologies and Engines
Power for most markets came from a 1.0-litre three-cylinder petrol unit producing 68 bhp, alongside an optional 1.2-litre PureTech turbo delivering 82 bhp. Both met Euro 6 emissions standards, and a five-speed manual or automated ETG5 gearbox were offered. Earlier models gained MirrorLink smartphone integration, while later facelifts added lane-departure warning and city-speed autonomous braking as options.
