Slotting between the outgoing Capitol and the future International, the Chevrolet National was a compact model whose short production run nonetheless steady-rolled Chevrolet into the early 1920s. At just under four metres long, it was the brand’s offering for buyers who needed everyday usability rather than full-size road presence.
History & Positioning
Introduced after the Capitol and before the International, the National was Chevrolet’s transitional compact entry in the early 1920s. It bridged market appetite for a smaller footprint while the firm prepared its next-generation International lineup, giving dealers a fresh model without large engineering overhaul.
Design & Dimensions
True to its compact billing, the National stretched only 3962 mm bumper to bumper—substantially shorter than typical American cars of the era. This tidy length allowed easier city maneuvering and lighter curb weight, contributing to reduced fuel consumption in the pre-war period.
