Chery E5

Unveiled at the 2010 Guangzhou Auto Show, the Chery E5 served as the compact sedan bridge between Chery’s aging A5 and its newer, more upmarket ambitions throughout the last decade.
Origins & Timeline
The E5 came to market in 2011 as a direct evolution of the Chery A5, riding on an updated but still cost-effective platform. Production continued through 2016, after which Chery shifted focus to its continuously rotating lineup, leaving the E5 without a direct successor.
Dimensions & Packaging
Measuring 4580 mm long, 1760 mm wide and 1483 mm tall on a 1285 kg curb weight, the E5 packaged true mid-size interior space within the compact-car footprint prized by urban Chinese drivers. A 180 km/h top speed was modest yet sufficient for highway work and taxi duty.
Platform Legacy
Because it reused the A5’s underpinnings, garage mechanics and ride-hailing fleets benefited from inexpensive parts interchangeability. Predictable mechanical simplicity made the E5 a common sight in second-tier Chinese cities and emerging ASEAN markets Chery exported to.
