Positioned between minivan and luxury wagon, the Buick Terraza was marketed from 2004 to 2007 as General Motors’ plush family hauler, replacing the Oldsmobile Silhouette and foreshadowing the three-row crossover era soon led by the Buick Enclave.
History
Launched for the 2005 model year in North America, the Terraza was part of GM’s short-lived quartet of Lambda-platform minivans that also included the Chevrolet Uplander, Pontiac Montana SV6 and Saturn Relay. Production ended after the 2007 model year, clearing the way for the crossover-oriented Buick Enclave introduced in 2008.
Design & Specifications
Measuring 5.2 meters long and nearly 1.9 meters tall, the Terraza packaged three rows for up to seven occupants behind Buick’s signature waterfall grille and faux-wood trim. Power came from a 3.5-liter V6 or an optional 3.9-liter upgrade, routed through a four-speed automatic to front or available all-wheel drive, while curb weight approached 2.1 tonnes.
Legacy
Though production totals were modest and the nameplate retired after just three model years, the Terraza’s leather-lined approach influenced Buick’s later shift toward comfort-oriented crossovers; its successor, the Enclave, adopted similar seating flexibility in a taller SUV form.
