History
Buick introduced the LaCrosse line in 2004 for the 2005 model year, positioning it as the brand’s premium mid-size offering above the Century and Regal. While popular in North America, its biggest payoff came in China, where extended-wheelbase and hybrid variants cemented its reputation in the country’s fast-growing luxury sedan segment.
Design & Generations
Across four generations the LaCrosse evolved from conservatively styled near-luxury to sleek, coupe-like proportions. Buick leaned into quieter cabins with Active Noise Cancellation and upscale trim choices; by the final generation, the cabin featured semi-aniline leather, ambient lighting, and a 10.2-inch infotainment screen aimed squarely at premium Asian rivals.
Production Footprint
Early cars rolled off the Fairfax (Kansas) and Oshawa (Ontario) lines, but Shanghai GM soon took the lead. By 2017 the LaCrosse was designed, engineered, and largely sold with the Chinese market in mind, while North American production ended after 2019.
