Austin de Luxe

Sold only in the mid-1970s, the Austin de Luxe was a short-lived family car built by Spanish company Authi under license from British Motor Corporation, offering compact dimensions wrapped in BMC pedigree.
Manufacturing History
The Austin de Luxe rolled off Authi’s Pamplona assembly line from 1974 to 1975—a two-year production window that coincided with the final phase of the Spanish firm’s operation before its integration into SEAT. Coupled to the BMC design heritage, the model targeted domestic buyers seeking an economical family saloon during Spain’s economic upswing.
Design & Dimensions
Sporting the Austin badge on a tidy 3.73-metre footprint, the de Luxe weighed just 852 kg thanks to its narrow 1.53-metre width and 1.35-metre height. Clean, unadorned styling kept costs low while maximising interior space for four passengers and modest luggage.
Legacy
Although production ended after barely 24 months, the Austin de Luxe remains a curio for Spanish automotive historians—one of the last vehicles to emerge from Pamplona under Authi branding before the plant became part of SEAT’s expansion in 1976.
