Slotting into the Samara family range from the mid-1990s, the Lada 2115 is AvtoVAZ’s stretched-hatch evolution of the VAZ-21099, offering estate-like practicality without leaving the compact class.
Generations & Positioning
Introduced to replace the VAZ-21099, the 2115 adopts the same boxy Samara platform but stretches the rear overhang to 4 330 mm, creating a quasi-estate body style AvtoVAZ marketed as a "universal" in domestic literature. Production continued through the early 2000s alongside other Samara variants, with no direct successor named after the line wound down in 2013.
Design & Dimensions
Compared with the three-door Samara hatch, the 2115 gains centimeters behind the C-pillar, pushing overall length past 4.3 meters while keeping the 1.65 m width and 1.4 m roofline unchanged. The squared roof and wide-opening tailgate give it a utilitarian profile closer to a small wagon than traditional hatchback, complete with rear-seat fold capability uncommon in Soviet-era designs.
Legacy
By mating Samara mechanicals with extra cargo room, the 2115 served Russian families and fleet operators as a low-cost alternative to imported estates through the turbulent 1990s and 2000s. While largely unknown in Western Europe, it remains a common sight in the CIS used-car market, illustrating the later phase of the Samara series before AvtoVAZ shifted to modern Kalina and Granta platforms.
