Slotting between the D2 and the later D4, the D3 chassis Audi A8 delivered a new generation of full-size luxury sedan to Audi’s line-up. Wider at 1 894 mm and built with aluminum space-frame construction, the D3 further refined Audi’s flagship formula introduced in the earlier A8.
History
The D3 generation arrived in the early 2000s as the direct successor to the Audi A8 D2. Continuing the model’s role as Audi’s largest, most technology-rich sedan, the D3 brought evolutionary design and engineering updates that prepared the way for the D4 introduced later in the decade.
Design & Construction
At 1 894 mm across the beam, the D3 was visibly broader than its predecessor, emphasizing a planted stance on the road.
