Launching in late 2007, the Audi A4 B8 moved the middle-size executive sedan to the cutting-edge MLB platform shared with the larger Audi A6, ushering in sharper proportions, a lighter body and a comprehensively refreshed powertrain line-up that set fresh benchmarks for the brand.
Generation Overview
Replacing the B7 in 2007 and produced until 2015, the A4 B8 sat on Audi’s new longitudinal-engine MLB underpinnings. This switch trimmed weight, increased rigidity and freed space for the stretched wheelbase that added rear-seat comfort while sharpening handling response.
Design Heritage
The B8’s sharper shoulder line, single-frame wide grille and LED daytime-running lamps distilled themes first shown on the 2006 Nuvolari concept. Longer bonnet, pulled-back cabin and pronounced roofline gave the car a more cab-rearward silhouette that moved the A4 closer to executive scales set by the A6.
Legacy
With tighter body control, crisper styling and a range of efficient TFSI and TDI engines first seen here, the B8 set the template for the entire A4 family leading to the 2015 B9. It remains a popular used buy thanks to proven mechanical longevity and wide parts support.
