Shown at Geneva 2004, Alfa Romeo’s Visconti concept married Giugiaro design with a twin-turbo V6, offering a glimpse of the brand’s next-generation fastback flagship.
Design
Giorgetto Giugiaro shaped the Visconti as a four-door fastback coupé/sedan standing 4.955 m long, 1.896 m wide and just 1.473 m tall, giving it a low yet imposing stance akin to a stretched grand tourer. The sleek roofline eliminates the visual break between cabin and trunk, while crisp Alfa design cues hint at forthcoming production models.
Performance
Powered by a 3.2-litre V6 JTS biturbo producing 405 PS at 6 000 rpm and 680 N·m of torque from only 2 000 rpm, the rear-wheel-drive concept promised strong mid-range punch and a theoretical top-speed north of 250 km/h. The engine was a precursor to Alfa’s JTS direct-injection systems, showcasing forced-induction flexibility for future road cars.
Concept & Reception
Unveiled at the 2004 Geneva Motor Show, the Visconti served chiefly as a rolling exhibit of Alfa Romeo’s design direction rather than a committed production preview.
