Built on a Maserati GranTurismo chassis and unveiled in 2018, the Touring Superleggera Sciàdipersia is a hand-built, bespoke grand tourer commissioned to honor the 1959 ‘5000 GT’ once owned by Shah Mohammad Reza Pahlavi. With only 10 coupés and 7 convertibles planned, it sits at the apex of rarity in the modern luxury-car world.
History
Carrozzeria Touring Superleggera announced the Sciàdipersia at the 2018 Geneva motor show. Drawing inspiration from the 1959 5000 GT “Scià di Persia,” the project paid tribute to the first Middle-Eastern royal commission for road-going Maseratis. A matching open-top “Sciàdipersia Cabriolet” followed in 2019, extending the runbook of this commemorative series.
Design & Coachbuilding
The aluminium and carbon-fiber body is hand-formed around Maserati’s GranTurismo MC Stradale platform. The long-nose, cabin-back silhouette echoes the original 5000 GT proportions, while discreet rear lights and convex shoulders give the car its unique, yacht-like stance. Each car requires over 5,000 man-hours to assemble in Touring’s Milan atelier.
Exclusivity
Production totals just 17 units—10 fixed-roof coupés and 7 spyders—delivered from 2018 through 2020. Buyers worked directly with Touring to specifying paint, upholstery, and trim, ensuring no two cars are identical.
