From 1969 to 1975, Maserati built the Indy, a four-seat fastback grand tourer that inherited the Sebring’s mantle and marked the first model developed under new Citroën ownership. Its brief career closed a chapter of Italian grand touring just as oil crises reshaped the market.
Design & Dimensions
Styled as a 2-door fastback, the Indy packaged four seats within the long-hood proportions expected of a GT: 4 740 mm overall length, a 1 758 mm width, and only 1 295 mm height, giving it a low, purposeful stance suitable for high-speed continental travel.
Generations & Production
A single 6-year production run accounted for every Indy ever made. Sharing its underpinnings with the earlier Sebring, Maserati refined the concept under Citroën’s early-70s stewardship, fitting it with updated suspension, brakes, and interior detailing, yet no second facelift appeared before production ceased in 1975.
Legacy
Though overshadowed by the Ghibli and Bora, the Indy remains significant as Maserati’s first post-takeover model and the last of the company’s traditional front-engined 2+2 grand tourers before the era of mid-engine supercars and tighter emissions rules arrived.
