Fresh out jointly with Beijing Hyundai and on sale in China since 2023, the Hyundai Mufasa slotting below the Tucson as Hyundai’s newest compact crossover will reach Taiwan showrooms in 2025.
History
Unveiled in April 2023 as the brand’s dedicated compact SUV for the Chinese market, the Hyundai Mufasa is engineered and built by Beijing Hyundai. In late 2024, right-hand-drive production was confirmed for Taiwan market launch in early 2025, marking the model’s first step beyond mainland China.
Design & Positioning
Positioned between the Hyundai ix25 and the larger Tucson, the Mufasa adopts the brand’s latest “Sensuous Sportiness” cues tailored for Chinese tastes—sharper LED lighting, pronounced wheel-arch cladding, and a squared-off rear to maximise cargo capacity.
Legacy
Although too recent for a storied past, the Mufasa sets a precedent: it is the first Hyundai developed specifically for—and initially restricted to—China’s rapidly expanding compact crossover segment, showing Hyundai’s shift toward market-focused regionalisation.
