Hyundai ix20

Slotting between compact hatch and full-blown MPV, the Hyundai ix20 bowed at the 2010 Paris Motor Show to fill Europe’s appetite for tall-roof practicality. Sold only on the continent, it quietly ended production as the Hyundai Kona crossover took the baton.
Design
The ix20 carried the softly creased “fluidic sculpture” surfacing that Hyundai was pushing at the time, wrapping a mini-MPV silhouette with glass rooflines, square wheel-arches and flip-up rear seats reminiscent of bigger multi-purpose vehicles. Measuring 410 mm long, 1 765 mm wide and 1 600 mm tall, it sat 20 centimetres below compact MPVs while still offering a near-crossover seating position.
Mechanical Foundation
Under the skin sits a stretched Hyundai i20 platform shared with the Kia Venga and the Kia Soul: MacPherson struts up front, a torsion-beam rear, and a palette of 1.4- to 1.6-litre petrol and diesel engines mated to either five- or six-speed manuals and a four-speed automatic option. Intended mainly for urban use and motorway cruising alike, the tuning leans toward comfort over outright sportiness.
Generations & Lifecycle
The ix20 was a single-run model produced from 2010 until roughly 2018–19. A mid-2014 facelift added LED running lights, revised bumpers and a new infotainment screen, but no second generation appeared. When Hyundai re-focused on crossovers, production tapered and the B-segment slot was effectively taken by the Hyundai Kona.
