Hyundai Genesis

History
Hyundai introduced the Genesis to global markets in late 2008 as the flagship successor to the Korea-market Hyundai Dynasty. Built on an all-new platform, it was intended as the first step up-market for Hyundai outside its traditional territories, followed by the creation of the stand-alone Genesis luxury division in late 2015. When the second-generation model debuted for 2015, Hyundai quietly removed the Hyundai badging; after MY 2016 the car was fully rebranded as the Genesis G80.
Engineering & Dimensions
Long-hood proportions gave the Genesis a commanding road presence: 4,630 mm in length, 1,865 mm across the beam, and only 1,385 mm tall. Rear-wheel drive came standard, with a HTRAC all-wheel-drive option on later models, supporting a near 50-50 weight balance intended for dynamic stability befitting an executive sedan.
Legacy
Although initially perceived as experimental, the Genesis earned credibility by demonstrating that a Korean automaker could deliver luxury build quality at relative value. Its convincing execution laid the groundwork for Genesis Motors, the first new global luxury marque since Lexus, and cemented Hyundai’s technical reputation.
