Slotting in below the Accent on Hyundai’s global roster, the Aura is a sub-4-metre sedan purpose-built for India and launched on 21 January 2020. Positioned as the modern replacement for the old Xcent, it blends hatchback footprint with a proper boot for urban-first buyers.
Market Positioning
Hyundai unveiled the Aura in January 2020 to keep the Xcent alive for fleet duty while giving private buyers a fresh face. The move let the brand run two nameplates side-by-side: one aimed at ride-hailing and commercial fleets, the other styled, trimmed and marketed toward retail customers who wanted a compact yet ‘proper’ sedan in big cities. The strategy mirrors how Tata separates the Tiago and Tigor.
Design & Dimensions
Beneath the raised bonnet and fastback-style roofline sits the third-generation Grand i10 platform. A 3995 mm length, 1680 mm width and 1520 mm height maximise interior volume while staying inside India’s sub-4-metre excise threshold, keeping taxes in check.
Generations
Only one generation of the Hyundai Aura exists today, launched in India in early 2020. Continual facelifts and trim shuffles follow Hyundai’s typical yearly cadence, but platform and body style remain unchanged.
