Built from 1978 to 1998, the Saab 900 replaced the Saab 99 and later gave way to the Saab 9-3, becoming the longest-running model in Saab’s history and defining Swedish upscale engineering for two decades.
Generations
First-generation Saab 900 ran 1978-1994 with classic coupe, three- and five-door hatch and rare convertible body styles built on an expanded Saab 99 platform. 1994 brought the heavily revised second-generation 900, engineered under General Motors ownership and produced only until 1998 before the switch to the Saab 9-3.
Legacy
Across twenty years of production the 900 cemented Saab’s reputation for cabin ergonomics, turbocharging expertise and driver-focused design, retaining a loyal global following that still keeps examples on the road in unusually high numbers today.
