Origin and Positioning
Introduced by General Motors as a successor to the 1935 Cadillac 355E, the Series 70 filled the brand’s mainstream slot while the more affordable Series 60 debuted beneath it. Arriving before World War II, the line soon expanded into wheelbase-specific derivatives like the short-wheelbase Series 72 (1940) and the longer-wheelbase Series 67 (1941–1942), giving Cadillac flexibility across coach-built and factory limousines.
Post-war Luxury Flagship
Following the war, the Series 70 solidified itself as Cadillac’s top-of-the-line sedan and factory-built limousine. Its large chassis and smooth V8 provided the basis for plush interiors and custom bodywork, appealing to heads of state, celebrities and affluent private buyers alike through successive generations of design.
Generations and Enduring Run
Although model-year details are sparse, production is confirmed from the 1930s to the 1980s, turning the Series 70 into one of Cadillac’s longest-running nameplates without any direct successor. The line gradually evolved alongside styling and engineering advances, maintaining its place as Cadillac’s senior full-size platform until market shifts favored downsized luxury.
