Slotting between the outgoing Type 61 and the upcoming 353, the Cadillac Series 341 debuted in 1928 as a mid-cycle refresh that carried V8 power into a new decade of American luxury motoring.
Background and Release
Arriving at the height of the Roaring Twenties, the Series 341 stepped in for the 314 and remained in production until 1928–1929. It retained Cadillac’s proven eight-cylinder architecture while adopting updated bodywork and chassis details that distanced it from earlier 1920s designs.
Mechanical Roster
As with other Cadillacs of the era, the 341 used General Motors’ sturdy OHV V8, now enlarged to 341 cu in (5.6 L). Power was routed through a three-speed manual gearbox to a live rear axle, delivering the smooth, quiet performance expected from the top tier of General Motors divisions.
Design and Positioning
The car rode on the extended GM C platform, offering longer wheelbases and more formal roof-lines than junior marques. Sedans, coupes, and town cars wore coachbuilt bodies from Fleetwood and Fisher, emphasizing vertical chrome radiator shells, disc wheels, and rich fabric or leather interiors that underscored Cadillac’s premium role.
Legacy
Production ended after barely two model years, making the 341 a short-lived bridge to the more powerful Cadillac Series 353. Today, surviving examples are sought after for their transitional engineering and classic late-1920s styling cues that mark the end of Cadillac’s pre-art-deco era.
