Cadillac ELR

Shaped as a sleek 2+2 coupé, the ELR stretches 4,730 mm in length and spans 1,847 mm in width while standing just 1,420 mm tall. Its curb mass of 1,837 kg reflects the structural reinforcement required to house the battery under the cabin without sacrificing a conventional forward-hinged hood and low roofline.

Mechanically, the ELR carries a retuned Voltec EREV setup lifted from the Chevrolet Volt, anchored by a 16.5 kWh lithium-ion battery that yields 37–39 miles (60–63 km) of pure-electric range before the gasoline engine takes over. Top speed is electronically capped at 106 mph (171 km/h), emphasizing cruising refinement over outright performance.

Cadillac offered the ELR for MY 2014, paused production for MY 2015, and then returned for a single additional model year in 2016 before quietly ending the program. With no direct successor, the brand’s electrification focus shifted toward the larger Cadillac CT6 and later to dedicated EV architectures.

Though sales remained modest, the ELR served as Cadillac’s near-term answer to emerging plug-in luxury rivals, demonstrating GM’s willingness to transfer its early plug-in technology into a premium body style while foreshadowing the design language now seen on later electric Cadillacs.
