Geely Auto’s Emgrand GS is a compact crossover that distills the brand’s recent push into SUV segments. First seen carrying the Emgrand sub-brand badge, it slots neatly between small compacts and mid-size SUVs.
Design & Dimensions
With a footprint of 4437 mm long, 1833 mm wide and 1545 mm tall, the GS is built on a raised hatchback profile rather than a full tall-box SUV silhouette. The numbers position it close to European C-segment crossovers, giving generous rear-seat and cargo volume without exceeding urban-friendly length limits.
Market Position
Introduced under the Emgrand brand, the GS aimed to lift Geely’s average transaction prices and broaden its image beyond value compacts. In China it competes squarely against domestic rivals like the Changan CS35 Plus, yet its styling cues echo more premium Korean and Japanese models of the era.
Evolution to Emgrand S
Geely later rebadged the updated GS as the Emgrand S, shifting it to the newer global Geely design language. While technical underpinnings carry over, the name change reflects Geely’s strategy of streamlining its multiple sub-brands into fewer, more cohesive nameplates.
