Launched on 22 August 2018, the Geely Binyue is a subcompact crossover that quickly established Geely in the hot-selling SUV class while serving as the blueprint for the export-marketed Coolray.
Overview
Positioned below the compact Emgrand X7/Boyue, the Geely Binyue brings crossover practicality to the B-segment. Its 4.33-metre length, 1.8-metre width and 1.61-metre height package five doors and elevated seating without straying into full-size SUV territory. Although built in China, the model is shipped globally wearing the English badge Geely Coolray to suit overseas tastes.
Export Identity
Since inception every Binyue produced for left- or right-hand-drive export countries rolls off the same Hangzhou Bay lines before being rebadged Coolray. The move keeps naming simple in markets such as Latin America, Southeast Asia and Eastern Europe, where ‘Coolray’ avoids tongue-twister pronunciation issues while retaining identical sheet-metal, powertrains and features.
