Between 2003 and 2006, Geely stepped into the sports-coupe arena with the compact Geely BL. This rare early Chinese two-door hints at the brand’s ambition before its later global push.
History & Production
Geely Automobile launched the BL during a period when the Chinese car market was still dominated by modest sedans and utility vehicles. Production ran only three model years – 2003 to 2006 – making the BL one of the few early Chinese-run sports coupes before the brand’s Volvo acquisition era.
Design & Dimensions
With an overall width of 1 690 mm and a low roofline at 1 325 mm, the Geely BL delivered sharper proportions than typical compacts of its day. Its 980 kg curb weight underpinned the lightweight theme China rarely attempted in the mid-2000s.
Legacy
Fewer than five years on the line meant limited export and sparse documentation, yet the BL remains a niche footnote for collectors tracking China’s first flirtations with performance-oriented styling.
