Lancia Dedra

Lancia replaced its aging Prisma in 1989 with the Dedra, a compact-executive four-door aimed squarely at reasserting the brand in Europe’s premium saloon segment. Stretched from the same base that underpinned the contemporary Delta, it served as Lancia’s range backbone for a decade.
Origins & Role
Conceived primarily to refresh Lancia’s lacklustre saloon offering after the Prisma’s sales slump, the Dedra debuted at the Paris Motor Show in autumn 1989 and was publicly released early the next year. Riding on an extended Delta platform, it carried over much of the sibling’s mechanical repertoire while focusing on smoother ride quality and understated luxury for business-oriented buyers.
Design & Dimensions
The Dedra’s clean three-box silhouette measured 4340 mm in length and 1700 mm in width, striking a disciplined European executive profile without resorting to chrome excess. A longer wheelbase within the same footprint yielded markedly better rear-seat room than its predecessor while keeping overall length below typical mid-size rivals.
Production Run & Successor
Italian production ran unbroken from 1989 through 1999, when the technologically richer Lancia Lybra took over the marque’s front-wheel-drive executive brief. A modest facelift in 1993 updated lights, bumpers and dashboard aesthetics, helping sustain sales for the remainder of its career.
