Between 1951 and 1954, French marque Delahaye produced a final flourish of luxury motoring with the Delahaye Type 235—only 86 examples built as the brand’s ultimate automobile before it disappeared for good.
Design & Styling
The Type 235 adopted modern ponton-style lines while still relying on Delahaye’s traditional ladder-frame chassis. Elegant, coachbuilt bodies by firms such as Chapron, Figoni & Falaschi, and Saoutchik wrapped around the 235’s long bonnet and sweeping fenders, giving it a post-war glamour intended to rival contemporary Bentleys and Lancias.
Engineering & Legacy
Mechanically the car evolved from the earlier Type 135, but it carried no significant innovations—an indication that Delahaye was already struggling financially. When production ceased in 1954 after just 86 units, no successor was planned, ending a line of luxury Delahaye passenger cars that stretched back to 1894.
