History
De Dion–Bouton stood at the forefront of European automotive innovation at the turn of the 20th century. The Type AW appeared within this era of experimental engineering and luxury craftsmanship, carrying forward the company’s reputation for reliable engines and refined chassis construction.
Design & Engineering
Like other De Dion–Bouton offerings of the period, the Type AW employed the firm’s trademark single- or twin-cylinder engines and tiller steering, packaged in a lightweight brass-era body. Advanced for its day, the car used De Dion’s own final-drive system and was among the first mass-produced automobiles to deliver both performance and durability.
Legacy
