Chevrolet Trax

Introduced in 2013, the Chevrolet Trax is General Motors’ global answer to the burgeoning demand for subcompact crossovers, replacing the smaller Tracker and staking a claim in the most aggressively growing SUV segment.
Origins & Market Launch
The Trax debuted for the 2013 model year as a contemporary, urban-focused crossover built on the Gamma II small-car architecture (shared with the Sonic). Initially engineered for global markets including Canada, Mexico, South Korea and Europe, it reached United States showrooms in 2015 to fill the gap below the larger Equinox.
Design & Size
At just 4.25 m (4,248 mm) long, the Trax packages a tall seating position and upright styling within city-friendly exterior dimensions. Its short overhangs, pronounced wheel arches and split headlamp graphics echo Chevrolet’s then-new family look while maximizing passenger and cargo volume relative to footprint.
Evolution to Second Generation
A complete redesign arrived in 2021 for markets including the United States. While still positioned below the Equinox, the second-generation Trax rides on an updated platform, gaining sharper proportions and expanded tech offerings, confirming its role as Chevrolet’s affordable entry point into the crossover lineup.
